Multi-platinum selling artist Dean Lewis is releasing his highly anticipated debut album A Place We Knew, which features the songs 'Waves' and 'Be Alright' in addition to recent hit single '7 Minutes'. This release followes his debut EP Same Kind Of Different.
For Lewis, the title A Place We Knew encapsulates the bittersweet memories of past relationships. āAll the songs were written through relationships Iād been in and houses I used to live in and hotel rooms.ā
On a plane he heard a phrase that struck him like a bolt of lightning, āAn in-flight-radio DJ said, āI wish that was a place weād known aboutā I went to my notes and wrote āA Place We Knewā and was like, thatās the album title. That ties everything together.ā
Lewis sought out several producers to collaborate with on his new album. The British team behind āWavesā and āBe Alrightā, Edd Holloway and Nick Atkinson are ever-present and so too is Melbourneās John Castle (āDonāt Hold Meā and āChemicalsā) and Dann Hume (āTime to Goā and title-track āA Place We Knewā). Sydney-based producer Dylan Nash, whom Lewis refers to as āalmost like the co-producer for the whole albumā, ties a thread between the 12 songs that were written and recorded all over the world giving A Place We Knew its cohesive sound.
From the uplifting āHold Of Meā and the celebratory āStay Awakeā, to his rawest and most vulnerable tracks āDonāt Hold Meā and āHalf A Manā, Deanās debut album demonstrates a far greater breadth and depth to his songwriting than ever heard before. In addition to writing every song on the album, Dean triumphantly plays piano, acoustic and electric guitar on A Place We Knew.
