FLCL Progressive and FLCL Alternative are the sequel series to the cult anime classic FLCL. Produced by the studios Production I.G. and GAINAX, the FLCL series have become beloved outside of Japan for their unique animation style, robust action sequences, offbeat style, and unforgettable soundtracks. Series director Kazuya Tsurumaki is quoted as saying he tried to “break the rules” of anime when making FLCL by choosing a contemporary Japanese band to provide the soundtrack, and patterning the style of the series more after a Japanese commercial or promotional video than other shows of the day.
